BMW launches a new family car.

New York - all driving enthusiasts familiar with the BMW M family. The M3 and M5 symbolize the epitome of driving sports sedans. Here now the firm Munich resolutely turned towards clean transport. After presenting its technology i at Auto Show in Frankfurt in September, BMW presented the two American journalists futuristic vehicles that are almost ready for production.
Technology dedicated to electricity
Unlike some manufacturers that fit the chassis fuel cars to make electric vehicles, BMW has designed and built vehicles strictly hybrid powertrain. And despite the futuristic look of these vehicles, they will be found on the road from 2013. The division of BMW i is a new milestone in the evolution of the brand. Beyond futuristic, how to build and design vehicles also notes the latest technology.

BMW i3 Concept and BMW i8 Concept

The BMW i3, first known as the Megacity Vehicle name, is the first production car in all-electric BMW. For an urban environment, it is based on a board that serves body and integrates Lithium-ion. On this platform rests a very light carbon fiber chassis that provides space for four occupants. This provision reveals a spacious interior and offer innovative solutions as a front seat continues. With a perfectly flat floor, the absence of central B pillar and a more than generous glass area, you have the feeling of being one with your surroundings. The i3 Concept will be on the road by 2013. Its current form will remain, but the large glass doors will not see the production line in this form for security reasons. Will be replaced by the glass of the steel. The car will be offered in 100% electric version with an announced 130 to 160 km, which is quite close to the Nissan LEAF. BMW has recently decided to offer an optional generator to extend battery life. The i3 REX (for Range Extension) leave the same principle as the Volt and will eliminate the fear of loss of power to get to the house. For the moment no price has been announced, but the i3 sedan will be the most affordable of the two cars offered in this family. It will be good to see the premium for a carbon fiber shell that makes this car a lightweight at 1250 pounds.
The i8 sports
With the i8, BMW pushes the LifeDrive architecture concept to spectacular. Unlike the i3 is a purely electric vehicle, the i8 is a plug-in hybrid. The two electric motors housed in the modules of the front axle and the rear axle, are connected by "energy keel" which houses the high voltage battery (Drive module). The center of gravity of the vehicle and lowered promotes its dynamic behavior. It will provide a portion of conduct electricity vary between 35 and 50 km, depending on your driving. Is taken over by a 3-cylinder engine which, combined with electric motors develop a surprising combined power of 400 horsepower. BMW promises conduct worthy of true sports cars. The driving module is composed of the same carbon fiber as the i3, and the total weight is limited to 1480 pounds, but the price of i8 suit privileged few. Without giving prices, BMW announced that it will expect to pay around $ 150,000 for this sporty 2 +2 which is expected in 2014. BMW announces a 0 to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds and an average consumption of 2.7 liters per 100 kilometers, these are impressive numbers in the same sentence.
BMW i also includes for the first time a range of mobility services used outside of the vehicle. The manufacturer has designed solutions that optimize parking, intelligent navigation systems with local information, intermodal route planning and other advanced technologies.

With BMW i brand, the German automaker says a little more about his ambitions for electric cars. We look forward to the BMW i3 and i8.
